Many people use 'thermal imaging' and 'moisture mapping' interchangeably, but they're different services. This guide explains the distinction.

Thermal imaging

Uses an infrared camera to detect surface temperature differences. Fast — can scan large areas quickly. Identifies ANOMALIES that may indicate moisture. Does not quantify moisture content.

Moisture mapping

Combines thermal with capacitance, conductivity, and pin-type moisture meters. Creates a 3D map of moisture distribution. Quantifies moisture content as a percentage. Takes longer but provides definitive data.

When to use each

Thermal alone is good for initial surveys and locating general areas. Moisture mapping is needed when you need quantitative data for insurance, litigation, or remediation planning.
